Privacy

LawSpeak explains legal documents. Those documents are among the most private things a person owns, so the design starts from keeping them where they are.

The short version

• Your documents stay on your device unless you explicitly ask for a cloud analysis.
• Photographs and scans are never uploaded. Only recognised text is, and only with your consent.
• Nothing about you is stored on our server. There is no account, no profile and no advertising identifier.
• Saved analyses are encrypted on your device and excluded from backups.
• There is no tracking and no third-party analytics.

What happens on your device

Text recognition runs locally, using the operating system's own vision framework. Page images are held while they are needed and released as soon as the analysis of the text is done. Temporary files are removed when the app starts and after each analysis, and are excluded from device backups.

If you choose to save a result, it is written to a local database with the analysis encrypted using AES-GCM. The key is stored in the system Keychain, marked as available only while the device is unlocked and only on this device. It is never copied to iCloud, another device, or our servers.

You can delete any saved analysis, delete all of them at once, or export everything as a readable file. Deleting is immediate and complete; there is no copy elsewhere to also delete.

What happens if you use cloud analysis

Cloud analysis is off by default. Turning it on is a separate decision from accepting the terms, and it is recorded against a specific version of the consent text — if that text changes, we ask again rather than assuming your earlier answer still applies. You can revoke it at any time and the change takes effect immediately.

When it is on and you ask for an analysis, the app sends:

• the recognised text of the pages you submitted;
• the jurisdiction you selected;
• a request identifier and the schema and consent versions.

It does not send your name, your email, your device identifier, your location, your contacts, or the page images.

Our server passes the text to the AI provider for the analysis, checks the answer against your document, and returns it. It does not store the text. Our logs record how many pages and characters were processed and how many points were found — never the content.

Separately, and only if you allow it for one specific document, a page image may be used when text recognition alone fails. That permission covers that one document, is not remembered, and stops applying the moment cloud processing is switched off.

Permissions

The app asks for the camera, and only to photograph the pages you want explained. It does not request access to your photo library — the system picker hands over only the images you choose, and the app never sees the rest.

Children

LawSpeak is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect anything from them.

What this is not

Changes

If this statement changes in a way that affects what leaves your device, the app asks for your consent again rather than relying on an answer you gave to an earlier version.
